The Local Area Network (LAN) Modem light will blink when your computer is sending or receiving data. On some modems, it is labeled as “PC/Ethernet”. It will remain solid when no data is being passed.
Here are some useful time-saving solutions if the LAN light on your modem is not lit:
Re-plug the Ethernet cable
Try to re-plug your RJ45 Ethernet cable that connects your modem to your computer. It should be plugged into the LAN port at the back of the modem and at the back panel of your PC. There should be a 'click' sound when the cable is pushed into place.
Replace the Ethernet cable
Check your current RJ45 cable for any faults.
Bypass network devices
Directly connect the modem to your PC, bypassing any network devices. This will help you determine which part of your Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) is affecting the modem light.
Restart the modem
Reboot the modem. If the LAN light still does not come on, try using a different modem.
Check your Network Interface Card (NIC)
To determine whether your Network Interface Card (NIC) is in good condition, run the following diagnostic tests:
- Check the back panel of your PC to find the NIC Light-Emitting Diode (LED) light. If it is OFF, make sure your RJ45 cable is properly connected to the NIC port.
- Ensure you have marked ‘Enable your NIC card’ in your networkconnection settings.
Check the device manager to ensure that the network adapter’s driver is properly installed. To do this, click [Windows] Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Network Adapters [Properties]. If there is a yellow exclamation mark by the NIC, try disabling it before restarting yourPC and enabling it.
